Why does my Chevy Avalanche have hot air instead of cold air?

Climate control lights for the passenger no long illuminate, when setting is on cold, cold air will blow on drivers side vents, but heat (that is hotter then the blazes of hell) blows from the passenger vents. I will be driving and out of no where, I have hot air instead of my cold air on the driver side.
