What causes a Silverado front end to clunk?

What causes a Silverado front end to clunk?

Turns out that the bushing at the end of the cross-member where the rear of the torsion bar mounts is loose (see photos). The torsion bar is firm in the cross-member, but there is alot of movement and knocking in the connection where the cross-member attaches to the frame. The cross-member moves up and down when I lift the vehicle from belos.

Why does my GM Truck make a loud clunking noise?

Loud clunking/popping noise from front end. Recently my truck has been making a very loud noise coming from the front end. I was driving to work one day when I heard a noise that sounded like a think piece of metal was flapping underneath the truck somewhere. Thought it might be the dust cover so I took it off and the noise persisted.

Why does my front suspension make a clunking noise?

This condition may be caused by the jounce bumper slamming into the upper spring seat because it is not retained in the correct up position. The jounce bumper loses position due to oil being deposited onto its retention fingers. The oil is from the strut leaking.

What causes a truck to shudder when going over rumble strips?

These are both with in my skill set. I also found this on a truck site “A possible cause for the shudder is a bad torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid or a bad torque converter clutch pulse width modulated solenoid (PWM). Thanks again.

Why does my Chevy Silverado make a knocking noise?

It seems to only have been heard/felt when going over an elevation change or when the suspension was unloading. Ive also heard it when pulling slowly into the driveway. I’ve taken it to Chevy twice so far and described the noise coming from the front end. They stated that they checked the whole front end and everything is tight.

Why does my GMC Sierra make a noise when I Shift?

That’s a comon problem for that body style. If there good, sounds like it could be that motor itself. To figure out if it’s you motor or transfercase, jack up the rear end, have a friend inside shift into 4 wheel drive, or try to, and put it in gear and apply some gas. If the front driveshaft is turning then it’s something with the front end.

Why does my GMC Truck make a clunking noise?

Ok my truck is at the dealer for the same clunk I have had for 2 years and they can’t find anything wrong. I thought it was the intermediate shaft since all the parts that it could be from wear have been replaced and are all ok They can’t find anything wrong but they hear the noise too?

What causes a GMC crossmember to clunk under the oil pan?

When the bolts aren’t torqued down properly (even if you can’t wiggle the crossmember by hand), the frame flexes and causes that crossmember to clunk. Make sure the bolts on the engine crossmember (under the oil pan) are tight, I’m a service advisor at a GMC dealership and get these once in a while.

How many turn out of driver’s side of GMC Truck?

Tightened the 18mm Xmember bolts, got 3/4 turn out of the driver’s side and about a 1/2 turn on the passenger side. Holy shit I’ve had this exact problem for 2 years.

How to rebuild the front suspension on your 1997-1999 OBS?

Remove the 18MM nut from the tie rod end and separate it using the separator and a sledge hammer. If replacing the innner/outer tie rod end assembly separate the inner tie rod end using a pitman arm separator (27022). You may need to kiss the inside of the puller with a Dremel or die grinder so it can fit on the relay rod.

How to fix driveline clunk in Chevy truck?

My truck is a NNBS 2008 crew cab and it was doing the clunk. I’ve also heard that marine grease works a little better because it’s thicker. dalejrfan88 wrote: The fix for my 03 was dipping a racquetball in Vaseline and putting it in drive shaft to soak up the extra lash/play. Then it was silent.

When do I hear a clunk from my rear axle?

Clunk from rear axle/side to side movement. Hello. Recently in the past week or so I’ve noticed a clunk coming from my rear end when I’m cornering or going over bumps in the road or uneven pavement. If i shake the truck box I can replicate the sound, and it sounds as if the rear axle is moving side to side.
