How do I reset my governor?

How do I reset my governor?

To adjust the governor, you would loosen the screw on the bottom of the governor arm and push the governor arm so the throttle is wide open. Then you would turn the bottom “clip” (which is connected to the governor shaft) counter clockwise. This will set the governor shaft on top of the governor spool.

How to fix a surging governor?

Often surging caused by the governor can be fixed by simply adjusting the governor spring. It usually only takes a small adjustment to correct the surging. If the spring has stretched out it will need to be replaced.

What causes the governor to surge up and down?

In this situation, take the engine to a professional for repairs. If the governor surges up and down, then the problem may be a plugged carburetor, a plugged idle circuit or a worn linkage. If you check these components and see that they work properly, then the set of the governor may be too sensitive.

Why is it important to keep the governor spring clean?

When this happens the engine will over speed. So, with an air vane system it is very important to keep the cooling fins clean so the proper amount of air can move through the engine. The governor spring is precisely calibrated for an engine that has full air flow going through it. If the air flow is blocked it can over speed the engine.

Why is the governor on my Hunker engine too sensitive?

If you check these components and see that they work properly, then the set of the governor may be too sensitive. This means that it reacts too quickly and overcompensates for the speed. Move the spring to a hole in the governor arm that is farther from the shaft to decrease sensitivity.

What should I do if I have a problem with the Governor?

You should do an inspection of the governor linkage and spring before trying to solve either of these problems. Make sure everything is operating freely and the spring is not damaged or stretched. Also, check the governor static adjustment to see that all free play has been removed between the spindle and carburetor.

What to do when the Governor goes off in a Hunker engine?

If the governor shaft moves clockwise, then loosen the clamp screw and turn the shaft clockwise. Replace the clamp screw and check the engine to ensure that the air throttle moves freely from idle to full open. With the engine at idle, move the governor lever to open the throttle and push the governor arm back toward idle.

Why is the Governor always going from loaded to unloaded?

The air compressor head gets pretty hot and the orings that seal the unloader pistons take a beating and get carboned up. They will leak big time and this is why the governor is always going from loaded to unloaded in 30 secs.
