Can you change the gears on a Silverado?
Can you change the gears on a Silverado?
I’ve got a question for anybody or possibly everybody. If I were to change-out the rear-end gears on my 2011 Silverado 1500 from the stock 3.42 to say a 3.73 ratio, would it be necessary to have the transmission re-flashed? It’s the 6l80 trans, with the 5.3 engine.
What’s the gear ratio on a Silverado?
After the new taller tires, driving on the interstate sucks. It has plenty of power, but the transmission is constantly dropping down to 5th and sometimes even 4th. This happens more while towing.
What do ring and pinion gears do in a Chevy Silverado?
Don’t see your Silverado Year? Replace a worn out ring and pinion system in your Silverado 1500, or just strengthen your system’s drivetrain with a more powerful ring and pinion set. These components are responsible for delivering power to your rear wheels, and are put through a tremendous amount of pressure during operation.
Which is better 3.42 or 3.73 gear ratio?
IMHO there ain’t nothing wrong with over doing it a little on the gearing. These trucks are under gear from the factory in my opinion. If your concerns are fuel economy go with the 3.42’s otherwise get the 3.73’s.Another thing to consider,Do you plan to ever go bigger if so get the 3.73’s you only want to gear once. Thanks for the quik reply.

What kind of gear does a Chevy Silverado use?
Each of these Yukon gear and pinion sets are composed from top grade steel that’s hard enough to deal with a substantial level of pressure during regular use. Add them to your truck and you can count on them to hold up when you’re climbing a hill, towing in four wheel drive or just pushing your truck in some other way.

Which is better 3.42 or 3.73 gears?
Yah, if you think you really need to change gears (sounds like you do), then I would make a bigger swing than 3.42. The 3.73 would be my choice. I’d go with 373 your truck is basically the same as mine and I think with the 342 that’s still to tall of gears with a 6spd auto.
Why do Jeeps have different axles and differentials?
Stronger axles, different gear ratios, and even a tougher differential will help you tackle more difficult trails. Wranglers are known to have a terrain capable and rugged drivetrain. The solid axle design paired with an incredible 4WD system, provides Jeeps with a high degree of versatility and durability.
Which is the best rear axle for a Jeep Wrangler?
The Dana 30 will only be found as a Jeep front axle while the Dana 35 will only be found as a rear axle on Wranglers. Dana 35 axles have earned a very poor reputation in the off-roading world, however, it is a great axle for stock Wranglers.
