Where is the Trans on a 4 speed corvette?
Where is the Trans on a 4 speed corvette?
The overdrive section is a separate trans, bolted to the rear of the 4 speed. This O/D unit can either be in direct drive, or in an overdrive mode, depending on engine temp, vehicle speed, and throttle input, and is controlled by the ECM (Engine Control Module).
What kind of trouble does a 1993 Corvette have?
Any loose strands could short another terminal. 1990-1993 Corvettes use the first generation ALDL connector. It houses a fuel pump override lead that has battery voltage. This connector position can harm other ALDL circuits if battery voltage is inadvertently jumped to a control circuit.
What kind of transmission did the 84 Corvette have?
The unit was designed/built by Doug Nash Transmission for the ’84-’88 Corvette. It was a decent idea, and did work well to reduce the emissions, and allow the car to pass the Federal EPA fuel mileage, and emissions requirements.
Why does my Corvette have a C41 error?
Seem to be same car as yours. These all came from a google search for ‘c41 error’ and ‘c41 corvette’. Could be a PCM module, a bad wire somewhere in the data communication wiring. Doesn’t look like an easy find or fix.
What causes stalling on a 1984 Corvette crossfire?
A failing control valve solenoid can cause stalling and poor or very rough idle on the 1984 Corvette Crossfire engine. The 1984 engine uses a manifold vacuum source to operate the EGR valve so a strong vacuum flow from a stuck open control valve solenoid would allow EGR to flow at idle.
When did corvette start using exhaust gas recirculation?
1984-1996 Corvette EGR Diagnosis. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) came about in 1975 when catalytic converters were introduced. The inert exhaust gas was used to quell the increased heat in the engine’s cylinders from the lean fuel mixtures required to keep the catalytic converters from melting down.
What does negative back pressure do on a corvette?
The negative back pressure version is used on all of the 1984-1991 Corvette engines. This is a bit of a misnomer in the way that may sound; the EGR valve’s internal check valve will evacuate any vacuum holding the valve open, when the engine is running. The exhaust pressure present in the EGR system will open the check valve closing the valve.
What kind of solenoid does a 1985 Corvette use?
All 1985-1989 Corvettes use NO control valve solenoids. 1985-1989 Corvettes use a ported vacuum source to open the EGR valve and the SES light would not be illuminated if the control valve solenoid stayed open. The performance would be affected if the control valve solenoid was stuck open and the small orifices in the pintle became plugged.
When did GM stop using the Turbo 350 transmission?
When combined with a 9.5” converter, the overall requirement is around 10 quarts. The Turbo 350 transmission, commonly known as the TH350, was a 3 speed automatic transmission that began phasing out the GM Powerglide in 1969. The TH350 then lasted 15 years before eventually being replaced by the 700R4.
How does overdrive work on a car engine?
Overdrive operation uses an epicyclic gear train that’s attached to the transmission. This gear train can either re-route engine power, or it can directly increase drive shaft speed on its own.
The overdrive section is a separate trans, bolted to the rear of the 4 speed. This O/D unit can either be in direct drive, or in an overdrive mode, depending on engine temp, vehicle speed, and throttle input, and is controlled by the ECM (Engine Control Module).

Why is there no trans on my C4 Vette?
The ’84s had a different system than the later cars. Check all your fuses first…the basics. If there is no O/D, it will most likely be an electrical issue, whether it be wiring, the switch itself, or the solenoid inside the trans. Check to make sure the connector on the trans is plugged in, too.
What kind of transmission fluid does a corvette use?
Dexron automatic transmission fluid lubricates the internals for minimum internal resistance, saving a few ponies while rotating the shafts. Used T-56 transmission availability is also pretty good. The T-56 in a Shark chassis has a removable crossmember.
