The battery light is nothing more than a voltmeter. Your lights are draining more than the alternator is producing dropping the voltage low enough that the light comes on. With the lights off, the alternator can keep up.

Have a 318 with the Onan B43G engine that’s not charging the battery. The battery light stays on even at full RPMs. Battery contacts clean. The voltage across the is 12.53 volts. Placing a 10 Amp charger on the battery seems to accept a charge. I was told to measure the AC voltage coming out and to expect 25Vac – 40Vac.

According to the TM, the light monitors the stator output. The only time the stator would not be providing AC current is when the flywheel is not rotating. This makes no sense to me. :think: As long as the battery stays charged I would ignore the battery light.
