How does the Cummins diesel particulate filter work?
The diesel particulate filter captures pollutants before they exit the exhaust stack. These pollutants build up on the ceramic of the DPF over time. The Cummins DPF is designed to automatically (“passively”) clean itself, during what is called a “regen”.

When does regeneration of the Diesel Particulate Filter ( DPF ) stop?
The truck’s programming will make many repeated attempts to regenerate the DPF, from a high soot mass level of 65% down to <10% when a cycle is complete. If your trip is too short and the engine is then shut off, or the truck is put in park with the engine idling, an active regeneration process stops (at whatever soot level the DPF is at).

So my new RAM 3500 is my first ever diesel truck. So all I know about the regen process, I have heard from friends or read online. I was under the impression that the trucks had to maintain at least 50 mph during the regen process to be functional.
