The torque is 3 then 12 then 15 Newton-meters, with blue Loctite on clean bolts and clean threads. More than that will destroy the gaskets and they will leak! The idea is, the iron block and heads will want to move around differently compared to the aluminum manifold, so LET IT.
Why do I put 13lbs on my Vortec manifold?
The 13lbs is to prevent the Vortec manifold from cracking and to keep it from squeezing out the gasket. This is an intake issue, not a head issue. I would use the torque specs for the new intake. I used the updated BS too.

Was over a friends shop today while he was finishing up a Chevy 350 Vortech rebuild using the Edelbrock Top end package. First time I have been around the Vortech design and the 4 bolts at each end of the intake manifold made me think why would Chevy go to something screwed up like that?
Why is my Vortec intake manifold torquing so bad?
The clamping bolts bordering that coolant port causes too much localized pressure (imo). I think shearing forces from initial installation or heat cycles are causing this. There is also deformation/damage at other areas away from coolant but not as dramatic. Why not RTV the whole thing and forget about crappy gaskets.
What should the intake manifold torque be on a GM Vortec?
I found this from the RHS site: it states the intake manifold torque is 35ft/lbs. I’m going to be using the updated GM vortec manifold gaskets, so I’m wondering if I should torque to 11 like the stock vortec setup is, or to 35 like the RHS spec sheet says. Small Block Chevy Intake Manifold Bolt Torque Specifications. 25 Ft/Lbs. Make sure you follow the sequence in a couple of steps, worry about this more on old and aluminum manifolds. Cast Iron is much more forgiving if you are unfortunate to have to use a boat anchor of an intake.
