THIS ISN’T GENERALLY A GOOD IDEA. Revving in general is unnecessary wear on your engine when you are sitting still, and when in motion it is even more likely to damage your car (because you might do it wrong and shift your car back into gear before allowing the rpms to lower or something like that).

Mine WILL rev over 3,000 RPM’s – it just starts coughing at 85 mph and shuts down at about 90 mph. I found that out the first time I got mad at an old woman doing 25 mph on the highway and passed her. 6,000 RPM’s when it downshifted, in nothing flat! Probably a good thing it shuts down at 90 mph, too, since it gets a bit squirrelly at that speed!

Well, as unbelievable as it may seem, after having the car (’82 GT with a 4bbl Holley) for almost a month, I just revved the engine above 2500RPM today. I was sitting in the garage with the car running thinking over my exhaust problem and decided to rev the engine up near the redline to see how it handled it.

As it reaches about 2800-3000 RPM it starts to stumble and fluctuate and wont rev any higher. A few times I could get it up to 3500 RPM before it dropped back down to 2800-3000 RPM and started crapping out again. What’s the problem? I assume its either an ignition or fuel problem but not the exact source.

Btw its a post 2000 GM so the egr is elecrltronic not vacuum operated, and his issue is the vehicle won’t to past 3000 rpm, NOT it’s decelerating funny. Read the issue before you pull an answer out of that hat.
