When to change the oil in final drive?
When to change the oil in final drive?
That includes finding out when to check the gear oil, when to change out the gear oil, and what kind of gear oil to use. Most final drive manuals recommend consistently using the same brand of oil, but if you do have to change brands or grades, then make sure to drain the final drive completely before refilling it.
Which is better final drive oil or gear oil?
As a comment regarding final drives and oil viscosity, remember that engine/powertrain oils and gear oils use different viscosity classifications, so an SAE30 engine oil (or TO-4 for that matter) is approximately the same viscosity as a 90-wt gear oil. A 140-wt gear oil is a slightly higher viscosity than an SAE50 engine/powertrain oil.
What kind of oil do you use for final drives?
We use caltex “chevron” delo silver 30 in the final drives, transmission/steering clutches and master clutch. Not sure if sae 30 is used in transmission/torque converter in a D65. Also your 65-6 would be wet steering clutches
What should the viscosity of final drive oil be?
For final drives, a typical grade of gear oil would be 80/90W with a viscosity of about 120.2 centistokes at 100°F – obviously not as thick as honey! If your gear oil is as thick as syrup or honey, you have a problem.
