What should oil pressure be on a Ford 8N?
What should oil pressure be on a Ford 8N?
Oil pressure of 30-40 psi is good. At idle, it may go as low as 20 psi. The oil gauge (and filter) is at the very end of the oil circuit from the oil pump thru the crank, etc. The oil pressure has been dropped many times before getting to the gauge.
What should the oil pressure be on an 8n?
I’ve been running 10w40 in my 8N but notice my oil pressure really drops off once it’s good and warmed up. I know that a small drop is probably normal, but it starts at around 35 and drops to around 10. My engine is definitely worn, but 10 seems really low.
What’s the oil pressure on a 1951 Ford 8N?
My 8N with a rebuilt engine and oil pump can barely hold 5 psi at idle when it is hot. This engine has new: pistons, rings, bearings, valves, ground crankshaft, milled block, milled head, rebuilt oil pump, new gauges, new oil pressure relief spring and lots of other things.
What should the oil pressure be on a new Ford?
A proper rebuild of the engine and pump will result in a running oil pressure of 40-45 PSI cold and at least 35-40 PSI hot. If it’s less, something wasn’t done right during the rebuild, plain and simple. Camshaft journals and the cam bores in the block are often overlooked during rebuilds.
What should the oil pressure be at idle?

The oil gauge (and filter) is at the very end of the oil circuit from the oil pump thru the crank, etc. The oil pressure has been dropped many times before getting to the gauge. There is an excellent oil flow diagram and explanation on the internet, posted by JMOR (YT forum).
Why does my Ford 8N have no oil pressure?
Re: No oil pressure in Ford 8n tractor It could be that the cam bearings are getting worn, but usually the engine will start out with oil pressure when cold and gradually lose it as the engine gets warmer.
Where is the pressure relief valve on a 1951 Ford 8N?
I’m with Terry, Prime the oil pump. There is a pressure relief valve on the front of the engine, Remove the hex head cap, pull out the plunger and spring. Squirt in some 90wt oil. Replace the plunger, spring, and hex head cap. Now try again.
What kind of engine does a 1951 Ford 8N have?
This engine has new: pistons, rings, bearings, valves, ground crankshaft, milled block, milled head, rebuilt oil pump, new gauges, new oil pressure relief spring and lots of other things. I did poor some oil into the pickup while the engine was inverted on my engine stand.
Where is the oil pump on a Ford 8N?
The oil pump it built into the front main bearing cap on the crank so kits are all thats normally available if you are sure your gauge is good you might have either a sticking relief valve in pump or front main bearing thats turning and when it turns the hole is not lining up with hole in main cap on front main bearing
