What is a EGR service?
What is a EGR service?
The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve helps lower your vehicle’s emissions, and make your car more efficient. In essence, the EGR valve helps the vehicle recycle gasses that they didn’t use. A dirty EGR valve often won’t work at all, and will need to be cleaned in order for this system to resume working.
When to do EGR maintenance on a Cummins diesel?
Ironically enough, most EGR-related issues surface after the 70,000-mile mark in most Ram pickups, so if this maintenance is performed at the appropriate time, much of the 6.7L Cummins’ EGR issues can be avoided. While EGR valve issues are much more common, EGR cooler failures do happen on 6.7L Cummins mills.
When to do EGR on Dodge Ram 2012?
Dodge Ram 2012 diesel your suppose to do a EGR remove and clean at 67,500. My Perform Service light comes on every time I start it and I have 74,000 miles on it now. Was at the dealer yesterday and he said $295.00 for this service. This dealership said it’s supposed to be done at the same time as the CCV filter.
Which is Cummins engine has the weakest EGR valve?
6.7L Cummins’ EGR Valve Although it’s known for being one of the most robust engines to ever grace the ¾-ton and 1-ton truck segment, even the 6.7L Cummins has its fair share of EGR gremlins. The weakest link in the 6.7L Cummins’ EGR system lies in its EGR valve.
How does the EGR system work on a 6.7L diesel?
The EGR system on the 6.7L Power Stroke (’11-present) couples two floating EGR coolers into one housing. Their “floating” nature allows them to expand and contract without risk of cracking (as was the case on previous engines).
How is EGR controlled in a Cummins 6.7L?
Control of EGR flow is based on engine load and engine speed. The ECM (Engine Control Module) gathers information from engine input sensors, and after evaluating the input signals, uses a stored performance map to operate the EGR Valve Actuator (2) and EGR Airflow Throttle Control Valve (3). The calculation allows for a precise EGR flow rate.
Can you reset the perform service indicator on a Dodge?
Cannot Get “Perform Service” indicator to reset… I performed the 67,500 service with replacement of the CCV filter and cleaning of the egr and egr cooling system. Did the reset procedure of 2 brake pedal, 2 slow accelerator pedal within 10 seconds and key off. Have done this at least 5 times but the indicator still comes on.
Are there any problems with the 6.7 Cummins Engine?
The EGR valve and cooler on the 6.7 Cummins is known to have problems, especially with higher mileage. It’s common for owners to simply delete the EGR system when problems do pop up. Of course, EGR delete can have legal concerns due to emissions laws. Sometimes cleaning the EGR valve will help alleviate issues.
How many bolts do you need to loose EGR valve?
There are a total of 4 10mm bolts hold the EGR valve in place and one v-band clamp holding the crossover pipe to the EGR valve that you need a 11mm to loose. The valve will stay in place due to the gaskets until you give it a gentle tap with your hand to free it up.
