Can you put 360 heads on a 318 engine?
Can you put 360 heads on a 318 engine?
You can run the 360 manifold on the 318 heads just use the 360 intake caskets. Your really only other option would be to get a manifold made for a 318.. Most Edelbrock manifolds are 360 runner sized already but they fit a 318.
What kind of head does a Chrysler 318 use?
The wedge heads (first used by Chrysler on the B engines) were far smaller, and lighter, than the old Hemi and polyspherical heads (318s with the poly heads are still often called “wide blocks” though the block itself is about the same size as that of the LA 318).
What kind of Head do I need for a 300 horsepower Mopar?
Purchase any set of 1970s era Chrysler 360 heads; they should be nearly free, since these heads are far from desirable for larger engines. Have the machine shop install 2.02-inch intake valves; this step isn’t completely necessary for an engine of this power level, but will allow you to use a nearly stock cam to help maintain idle quality.
How much horsepower does a Mopar 318 have?
A street-worthy 318 can easily make 400 horsepower, about what a lot of street 360s put out. When the engine in my 66 Barracuda needed to be rebuilt, I decided to replace the stock 273 with a modified 318. Forty five extra cubic inches equals lots more torque and horsepower, and the 318 is a bolt-in replacement for the 273.
When did the Dodge Magnum 318 come out?
Magnum 318 Chrysler introduced the Magnum 318 in 1992 that came with a new block and heads. The Magnum featured high-flow heads for better intake. The Magnum, which was used in Dodge trucks, was a better engineered and more efficient engine.
What should the heads be on a 318?
The stock 318 heads should be about 60cc. The 360 heads are in the 70-72cc range. This works out to a compression drop from from 8.5-1 to about 7.2-1. Severe planing of the heads to compensate for the larger combustion chamber is not usually a good idea as this further amplifies problems with the port mis-match.
Can you use 360 heads on a 340?
From what the old DC Race Manual mentioned, before 360s came out, but 340s had the 2.02 intakes, you could use the 340 heads IF you clearanced the top of the cylinder bores to clear the bigger intake valves of the 340. Bigger ports don’t always work better on smaller displacement motors, unless they are really undersized to start with.

What’s the difference between a 340 and a 318?
There were many differences between the 340 and 318 apart from the bored, which made the 340 far more powerful than the everyday 318. The six-barrel version of the 340 had extra material in the bulkheads for strength, allowing the use of 4 bolt main caps; it also had a different cam and heads.
