What is a diam implant?
What is a diam implant?
The DIAM spinal stabilization system implant is a dynamic stabilization product that can be used to treat low back pain and radiating leg pain. The core of the DIAM device is made of silicone, the outer mesh and tether are made of polyester and the crimp is titanium. The first DIAM device surgery was performed in 1997.
What is a diam in back surgery?
An interspinous process device, the Device for Intervertebral Assisted Motion (DIAM™) designed to treat lumbar neurogenic disease secondary to the lumbar spinal stenosis, it provides dynamic stabilization after minimally invasive (MI) lumbar decompression.
What is a Vertiflex device?
The Vertiflex Procedure uses a small implant (the Superion® Indirect Decompression System) that is placed inside the spine to help prevent reduction of the space when standing or walking. This provides relief by lifting pressure off the nerves to alleviate leg and back pain symptoms that often accompany the condition.
Is Vertiflex considered surgery?
Vertiflex is an outpatient procedure done with a local anesthetic and a tiny incision. Rather than cutting through the surrounding tissue, we use a small tube, also known as a dilator, to move the tissue and create a path for placing a small, titanium alloy implant called Superion™.
Can lumbar spondylosis be cured permanently?
There is no treatment to reverse the process of spondylosis, because it is a degenerative process. The treatments for spondylosis target the back pain and neck pain that spondylosis can cause.
How is diam used to treat spinal degeneration?
The DIAM™ (Device for Intervertebral Assisted Motion) Spinal Stabilization System provides flexible support of the lumbar spine while treating spinal degeneration.
What is the intended use of the diam system?
DIAM Spinal Stabilization System Proposed Intended Use • The sponsor describes the investigational device as intended to alleviate pain “through the reduction of stresses on the overloaded posterior disc and facet joints”, while it “re -tensions the supraspinous ligament and other ligamentous structures .” 8
What does diam stand for in medical terms?
DIAM™ Spinal Stabilization System. Surgical Technique. The DIAM™ (Device for Intervertebral Assisted Motion) Spinal Stabilization System provides flexible support of the lumbar spine while treating spinal degeneration.
How is the diam system secured to the spinous processes?
The DIAM™ System implant is secured to the adjacent spinous processes by the implant tethers. A contralateral exposure is necessary to allow passage of the tethers around the supra-adjacent and subadjacent spinous processes. The tethers are passed through the loop on the side of the implant (Figure 10a).
