Why is there a warning light on my fuel filter?

Why is there a warning light on my fuel filter?

Lot’s of WIF sensors are way more complex now and measure the resistance of the fuel and can detect small traces of water rather than waiting for it to collect in a pool at the bottom of the filter ……by the time it’s doing this a lot of modern common rail systems would already be suffering damage caused by water and corrosion .

How does a fuel filter work on a car?

Inside the fuel filter is a fluid level sensor that keeps track of the amount of water that has been collected. Once the level starts reaching maximum capacity, the fuel filter warning light will illuminate to let you know to empty the filter. On manual systems, a valve at the bottom of the filter will let the water drain out once opened.

How to operate the fuel filter float light?

If you can unscrew the bottom off the filter you should be able to operate the float by hand and have someone watch the dashboard. The 200 is a world apart from the older models so Mr T may have unnecessarily over engineered this, but I can’t think why they’d do that. Water collects, float rises, light comes on…. Why does water not go through fuel filter?

Water doesn’t work very well as a lubricant and it could cause excessive wear on the engine if it made its way through the fuel system. To prevent this, diesel fuel filters are designed to separate the fuel and water before it heads to the engine.

Why does my fuel filter light keep coming on?

Salt and water from the roads can get in the plug and cause it to sense water if fuel. That’s what I’d do anyway. If that’s not it, its a wiring chaff or module issue. Unplug the water in fuel sensor wiring from the bottom of the filter and see what happens. If the light stays on you’ve got a wiring or computer problem.
