Why does my RPMs jump up and down?
Why does my RPMs jump up and down?
Hi There, It sounds like you may have a dirty or failing idle air control valve causing your engine idle to fluctuate. The idle air control valve is a small valve on the engine’s intake system that reads the air intake as it comes into the motor.
Why does my Ford F-150 stall when I slow down?
After starting and engine starts to warm up the idle speed starts to lower to the point when your slowing down the engine dies. Engine will start back up fairly easy but does not want to idle right. You can take off but when you start to slow down and your rpm lowers the engine will die. Mine doing the same.
What are the RPMs on a Ford F-150?
First start after sitting overnight. Rpms go up the down right away to about 300 then back up to about 900. Put truck in reverse and truck stalls out. This does not occur every time. Does the same when I put in drive
Why does my Ford truck stall when I put it in neutral?
My truck wants to stall at low speeds. When I put the truck in neutral then Rev up the engine and pit it in drive it runs fine until I slow down again then it does the same thing. The garage changed the cam sensors but that didn’t correct the problem.
Why are my RPMs so low while idling?
Typically air leaks result in poor mileage. Thanks Nick, you nailed it. After a good cleaning with throttle body cleaner the fluctuations stopped, but the RPMs were still low. I finally replaced it (Ford calls it the IAC valve, stands for idle air control valve) and it’s been running like a champ ever since.
What’s the average rpm of a Ford Explorer?
I have a 2003 Ford Explorer that hasn’t been idling well lately. It normally idles around 800 or 900 rpms, but lately it will slow down to 400 or 500, then burst up to 1100 and repeat the process again. It doesn’t do this all the time, maybe only half-time.

Occasionally the rpms get so low that the engine dies, but that only seems to happen when I’m turning AND braking at the same time.

When to idle air control at 1000 rpm?
Idle air control..it should idle at 1000 rpm’s when the engine rpm’s jump up and down, suspect the iac. Thanks for contributing an answer to Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Stack Exchange!
