Is there transfer case fluid for Ford PowerStroke?
Is there transfer case fluid for Ford PowerStroke?
FYI – Both Mobil 1 Syhthetic ATF and Valvoline Maxlife meet Mercon specifications (per their product sheet). I believe that Ford would have recommended SP or LV for the transfer case if it were a good fit. Simply put – they didn’t. Instead, they sell their own transfer case fluid (about the same price as SP IIRC).
How can I change the fluid in my transfer case?
Your mechanic can check the fluid condition first and change it if it’s dirty. The transfer case or unit usually has two plugs: a fill plug above and a drain plug below. The fluid level and condition can be checked through the fill plug.
How do you replace the transfer case on a Ford truck?
Replace the skid plate and drive shafts back into place. If you marked the shafts, make sure to align them the same way that they were when you removed the old transfer case. Replace the transfer case fluid with an approved Ford transfer case fluid. If playback doesn’t begin shortly, try restarting your device. Full screen is unavailable.
What kind of fluid does a Ford F250 use?
I have a 04 automatic f250 Thanks guys. The owners manual says Mercon ATF, but I wouldn’t use LV or SP in the transfer case (too thin IMO) and Ford specifically says not to use Mercon V. Ford has a specific transfer case fluid (Motorcraft: XL-12), but I use the Royal Purple SynchroMax.

What kind of fluid goes in a Ford transfer case?
10w30 or 40 is the correct oil. The 203 depends on the chain “splashing” fluid into the tail housing. Is transmission fluid and transfer case fluid the same? The transmission and front differential share the same fluid (ATF).
Is the transfer case on the F-150 the same as the F 250?
Both the Ford F-150 and F-250’s engines have similar transfer case setups even though their transmissions are different. The process for removal and installation is the same, however. Always remove the battery terminals before starting any work.
What kind of fluid does a 97 F-250 use?
97 f-250 7.3l here. About to change out the transfer case fluid and was just wondering what is the capacity and what types of fluids does everyone recommend? Also, anything unexpected that I might discover or is changing the fluid pretty easy. I figure a drain plug and fill plug, right? Thanks for the help.
