How to fasten a high strength rail bolt?
How to fasten a high strength rail bolt?
The fastening of high strength bolt includes two steps: initial screw and final screw. More specifically, torque value of initial screw is more than 30% value of final screw. Final screw use electric wrench. Initial screw and final screw should be complete between 24 hours.
When to use higher torque on a bolt?
Higher torques (up to theoretical yield) are sometimes used for bolts that cannot be locked to resist vibration. The higher load will increase the vibration resistance of the bolt, but the bolt will yield and unload if its yield point is inadvertently exceeded.
What kind of bolts are needed for rails?
As we all known, steel rails are connected by the rail bolts and nuts. The strength of railway bolts and nuts will affect the reliability and safety of rail track. High strength bolt has good tightness, which decides it can be widely applied in the railway track system. For normal application, required steel grade of bolt is more than 8.8.
What happens when you torque a fastener too much?
The higher load will increase the vibration resistance of the bolt, but the bolt will yield and unload if its yield point is inadvertently exceeded. Since the exact yield torque cannot be determined without extensive instrumentation, it is not advisable to torque close to the bolt yield point.
How to torque a high pressure oil rail?
We did oil cooler and STC as well. Make sure all the threaded holes for all the bolts are blown out or you may get a false torque reading from the trapped oil. This also pertains to injector hold down bolts if you ever find yourself changing injectors. Also the standpipe/dummy plugs are torqued to 60ftlbs. Will do, thanks for the comments!
Is there a torque sequence for oil rail mounting bolts?
The valve cover is back on now and I have realized there is a special torque sequence for those oil rail mounting bolts and even though the torque is correct I didn’t follow the sequence. Do I have to pull it back apart and redo them in the proper order or will it probably not matter?
How big is the oil rail in a Ford truck?
Also the standpipe/dummy plugs are torqued to 60ftlbs. Precisely, the injectors are always mentioned about blowing out the bolt holes and never the oil rail bolt holes which are actually more likely to fill with oil IMHO.
What to do about oil rail bolt holes?
Precisely, the injectors are always mentioned about blowing out the bolt holes and never the oil rail bolt holes which are actually more likely to fill with oil IMHO. Visit Bullitt390’s homepage!
