What happens when you press the stop button on a marine engine?

Most marine diesels use a solenoid to shut down the engine. They normally remain open, allowing fuel to flow. When you press the STOP button, current flows to the solenoid, closing the valve and cutting off the supply of fuel (in some cases, the current holds the valve open while the engine runs).

Where is the starting and stopping of a diesel engine?

Starting and stopping operation of the diesel engines can be controlled either from the main switch board (MSB) synchro panel or from the generator engine control panel (GECP / Local) located near generator.

How do you start a diesel engine on a ship?

With “READY TO START” lamp lighting, position “ENG CONTROL” switch on synchro panel to START ; the engine starts. If the engine does not reach 300 rpm or above within 20 seconds of “ENG CONTROL” switch operation, it will be alarmed on GECP /Local as start failure and “START FAIL” lamp provided on MSB will be lighted and alarm issued.

What to do if your boat engine won’t start?

If it’s between 0 and 8 volts, you have a battery problem. Start the engine from an alternate battery, or start the generator and make sure the charger is working. Some boats have a parallel switch for engine starting.

Why does my diesel engine start then quit?

You don’t say if it runs for 10mins, 10 seconds etc etc, makes a difference but if it starts and runs good then quits in seconds, you’re probably into a safety feature designed to protect the engine. If it starts and runs for several minutes theyn probably a fuel flow issue, filter, pump, vent, squished fuel line etc.

Why does my MerCruiser engine start but not stay running?

I get some of the fogging smoke from winterizing last year (dealer did it in November, no issues with motor reported at that time), have the muffs hooked up, etc. Anyway, would love your opinion! This is on a 2006 Mercruiser 5.0 MPI. Easy fix, but cost a couple bucks.
