Not sure if the 520 is set up like the 30 and 40 series. On those, if you broke a drive chain, it usually waded up behind a drive axle sprocket and wedged in like a mofo! LOL There is access plates on top of the chain case, in front and under the drive pump but the access is horrible.

Can a motor carrier be removed from a bobcat?
If you have continuous links, you either have to cut the chain to remove, or remove the motor carrier to remove chains as left and right drive sprokets are practically against each other. If I get to continue assembly tommorow, I’ll snap some pics of chains and sprockets installed.

What kind of oil does a bobcat use?
Bobcats generally use chain case oil to lube the wheel bearings also, other brands have grease zerks. G..G..G..Granville………..!! I don’t really understand why the chains are in oil anyhow? Its been too many years since I owned a bobcat machine but none of the skid steers I’ve ever owned had that much oil in the chain case, most just use a few inches is all. Some of the older gehl’s used the chain case as a hydraulic tank as well, but that was a long time ago and even they quit doing that the last time I looked.

On a bobcat its a total pain to work on the chaincase, one of the worst things about those machines in my opinion, along with a pretty long list of others as well, on bobcats the motors are on the outsides of the case and the gears are on the inside of the drives, most makes have it the other way around, or two separate chain cases.

Few days ago, I’ve bought a used bobcat 520 skid steer loader, which it self is not in a rather more decent shape. Thankfully, the engine and the hydraulics function properly, so that’s not really on my concerns at the moment. one of my main concerns is that, as how I’ve seen it while we were unloading it, it couldn’t steer.
