What should fuel psi be on dt466e International diesel?
Usually when we get no start cold but fires and runs after using ether it might be injectors, but you need to do the fuel checks I posted and let me know. If you don’t have a fuel psi gauge, autozone loans them out. I like to have around 60psi I have seen them run ok above 45psi.
Why does my dt466e take so long to start?
The high psi oil system, in a dt466e you have high psi oil that fires the injectors, and sometimes the pump can actually bleed down overnight causing it to take forever to start, the only way to check that will be let it sit overnight and there is a temp sensor in the front cover/ drivers side . it is right in front of the oil/fuel pump.

What causes an injection pump to start up?
This type of leak can allow air to enter the injection pump resulting in starting issues. A rubber hose on the back of the injection pump, connecting the pump to the steel hard line, that can be the source of this type of leak. Ready to sell? CarMax buys all kinds of cars
When did Navistar switch from mechanical injection to HEUI?
Take Navistar’s DT466-based engine for instance. It utilized mechanical injection from the 1970s to the early 1990s before the same overall platform was adorned with the HEUI system. After the switch, there was no change in hard-part durability.
Can a HEUI injector last as long as a mechanical unit?
With proper maintenance, a HEUI injector can last just as long as a mechanical unit, and many HEUI injectors outlast the newfangled common-rail injectors found in the latest diesel engines on the market.

Why does my DT 466E engine have low oil pressure?
If the injection control pressure is low it may be the injector o-rings, a defect in the injector itself (poppet valve) or worn out pump. The symptoms of a low oil pressure to the injectors will be low power especially when hot, high fuel and oil consumption and blue exhaust smoke especially on start up.
Why does my 1999 IH dt466e keep dying?
I have a 1999 IH DT466E that will not stay running. It will start right up and then run from anywhere from 30 secs. to several minutes. It then dies, but will start back up and do the same thing. I have replaced the fuel filter on the drivers side, and the high pressure oil pump is also new last fall.
Why is the wastegate not working on a DT466?
Since it’s a mechanical DT466 (not an E), many of those had a Bosch injection pump with an aneroid valve and a wastegate valve on turbo, both activated by turbo boost pressure from intake. I have seen diaphram go bad on wastegate valve pot which causes the aneroid valve to not get pressure to turn up fuel when under load.

When did DT466 truck die and will not start?
(1) August 2015 truck was towed back to our place. One of the guys here said that he drained water out of the fuel and the truck started, but then it didn’t start next day so we called local mechanic and he checked electrical connectors and found that fuse in battery box was not making connection and shorted.
Why does my 466 pump have a hard time starting?
You probably have a leak on your high pressure oil rail. More than likely, needs a new o-ring set. The 466 uses oil to hydraulicly actuate your injectors. Once the o-rings start to leak, the high pressure pump has a hard time building pressure to actuate the injectors. Sometimes it takes 30 seconds to finally build enough pressure to start.
Is the IH 4300 DT466 getting hard to start?
I have an 05 IH 4300 DT466 with 131K miles on it. I have had a small problem with it before, usually first thing in the AM. But now it doesn’t want to start no matter what time of the day it is. If its been sitting for any length of time it cranks and will finally start after about 45 seconds.
Why does my DT engine not start well?
The high mileage on this DT engine was a factor and we changed the HEUI o-rings as well since that also directly effects starting. The o-rings separate the oil from the fuel around the injector and if one of them fails this will also cause poor starting among other problems.
When do you reset the fuel cut off switch?
