Yes, the pcm will have to be re flashed for the car to run. Security settings as well as the VIN and millage will be reprogrammed as well. One says yes to reprogramming but it is to make sure the mileage on the computer matches the car and nothing else.
Is the Dodge Durango 99 PCM a good car?
It’s a 99 PCM with security, Cali emissions, 4wd and a 5.9L. Anyone have one I can borrow for testing purposes? I don’t think this PCM is bad, just trying other avenues. Need some input. Thanks! 99 PCMs tend to be more heat sensitive as they age. Try getting more air directly on it to keep it cooler.

Hello! My 02 durango is in need of a new pcm. The dealer ran diagonosed it as being error code p0601. They are charging 888.00 for the parts and labor. I don’t have the budget for that now and need to pass a smog check in order to register my wifes vehicle which she uses daily to pick up and drop of my two children

It may not affect older durangos like Neil F’s 1999 D but it did affect mine. But in the end after the quick return trip everything is great, no check engine light, and I was finally able to use my superchips programmer!!!! Yes a VIN has to be in the PCM. Any VIN can be in the PCM otherwise the ABS lights will be on.
Why does my 99 Durango have no bus code?
I was thinking a cold solder joint to the coil circuit as it had no spark during the no run condition. I have a 99 Durango 5.2l 4×4 with the Federal Emission PCM and have also had the NO BUS code in the odometer. Mine stalled while driving also and never started again ( to this day it still hasn’t started!)

Can a PCM be used in a 4×4?
When buying a used PCM, it has to be from the same year, engine, 4×2/4×4. If you don’t have the factory alarm, which you said is the case, the PCM can’t have been used in a vehicle that has the factory alarm option.
