Tried some mods that all failed, but ultimately bought the generic 49447 kit and used the larger bushings. These are a bit of a challenge to install (i used a flathead screwdriver), but do grip the ball joint better than the original bushings. Perhaps some wear on the ball joints?

They will work but fit loosely and the linkage arm will pop off and get bent, which will mess with the wiper sweep alignment. Use 49447, there’s a set of four in the pack that will work, they will be tough to get in, soak them in boiling water for a minute then insert them.
