My 2003 had the same problem, only intermittently. Brought to the tranny guy and it was a bolt on electronic gizmo on the tranny. Took about as long to lift the truck as it did to change the part. Our 1998 Ford Explorer has the same O/D flashing issue with check engine light. Neither were a problem until we had to change engines on it with another 1998 Ford Explorer. Before the exchange there wasn’t an issue with the transmission or any lights on.
