This added wiring and related connectors has had a few problems as of late. What is happening, is with the back and forth movement of both the driver’s and passenger’s front seat, this is causing tension on the side airbag connectors underneath the seats.

What to do when your airbag light comes back on?

After you clear the Chevrolet airbag light, turn off the ignition then back on to determine if the airbag light has been reset. Go back to the Airbag / SRS control unit. Scroll down to Clear / Erase Fault Codes and press enter. If the problem hasn’t been fixed, the airbag light will come back immediately or as soon as the problem is detected again.

Where is the airbag code on a 1996 Chevy?

If you use a generic OBD-II scanner, it will show no fault codes, even though airbag codes are present and the airbag light is on. Under your Chevrolet dashboard, you will find the Onboard Diagnostic port, also known as the OBD-II port. Your browser does not support the video tag. All 1996 and newer Chevrolet have this port.
