Why does my pool light keep tripping?

In many pool lights there is a safety device that is built into the pool light fixture called a thermistor. The way this safety device works (or is supposed to work) is when a light bulb in the fixture overheats, the thermistor is triggered and trips the breaker or GFCI.

Most pool pump motors are designed to run off 115 or 230 volts. If your pool was recently installed or if your pump was recently replaced, it may be wired incorrectly . This scenario is the most likely if your pump consistently trips just five to ten seconds after turning on.
