On many ford/mercury SUV’s I have seen similar stalling problems and have chased them one by one, including cleaning the injectors, fuel filter, etc., depending on the codes. However the one thing that seemed to resolve the most frequent problem of stalling at a stop sign, whenever you take your foot off the gas pedal, was an induction service.

When did the dpfe sensor go away on the Mercury Mountaineer?
We took the Mountaineer to another dealer and they replaced the DPFE sensor in July of 07. Until then to now the problem went away.
