I had this same problem with a 2004 ford ranger 4.0 liter by 5 speed manual and went through the fuel pump and filter fuel pump relay the coil pack crank sensor and a bunch of checking grounds. Finally pulled the inertia switch off and the plug was melted and just bypassed it and shes run good since then.
