Why does my Ford Ka have no heat?

One of the most common (and inconvenient) problems with the Ford Ka is when it has no heat coming from the heater. Not having a functioning heater makes driving much less comfortable, and can be a sign of certain issues. At the simplest level, there are two main reasons why the heater is not working.

What kind of heater does a Ford Ka have?

As I understand it the heater valve on these Ka’s is a PWM motor. So off with the plug to scope the voltage.

What should the PWM be on a Ford Ka?

Heater control position on full hot should be a steady battery voltage. Heater control position part way there should be a PWM pattern, quite slow I set mine to 10seconds (I told you it was slow). – after the fix I got a nice steady PWM pattern, at about 1/2 way setting it was approx 30% on 70% off.

Underneath where the windscreen meets the bonnet there is a long channel which was absolutely filled with rain water. The two drain holes were blocked with leaves and gunk. This water was then finding another way to escape, ie into the footwell!

How does the cooling system on a Ford Ka work?

Your Ka’s cooling system works by cycling the engine coolant from the engine through the radiator. The water pump pushes the water through the entire system. The thermostat opens up once the engine reaches operating temperature and allows coolant in. If any part of this system fails, your Ka will eventually overheat.

Where does the water come from in a Ford Ka?

If you check the soak pads under the foot pedals see if they are wet then that means the water is coming in from the Scuttle. I have also got that issue as well – multiple leaks which i think may be needing sealed with silicone sealant or a new heater section.
