Why does my focus ZX5 Zetec not start?

Been searching through the forums, but can’t find the answer: my 2003 Focus ZX5 Zetec has an intermittent “no electrical” problem. When you open the door, no dome light, nothing. When the key is inserted into the ignition, no dash lights come on, no sounds, nothing. The car doesn’t start, nor attempt to start (no fuel pump, no solenoid clicking).
