Why does my corolla make a squeaking sound when I start it?

I just purchased a used 2010 Corolla 3 days ago. I’ve only now noticed that when I start the car, there is a squeaking sound coming from the engine. It lasts no more than a second. Sounds like it would be belt related (though my car knowledge is very minimal).

How long does cold start squeal noise last?

After the fix at the local garage, the car performed fine and it idles well except for one last detail which is the morning cold start squeal that lasts for 10 seconds.

What causes a high pitched squeal when starting a car?

Oil on a bealt is usually a bad idea. The only way WD-40 could improve a belt is if it happens to be glazed and the oil just softens the belt without actually lubricating it. The squeal on startup is probably caused by the alternator trying to recharge the car battery.

Why does my alternator belt squeal at night?

Yes the nights dew could play a part by dampening the metal and allowing for slippage of the belt causing it to squeal momentarily until the dew dries up. The problem could be as simple as tightening your alternator belt.

Why does my car make a knocking noise when I Turn on the heat?

This noise may be caused by an interaction between carbon that has formed on the piston, the piston motion and the cylinder wall. GM Powertrain Engineering, and an analysis of engines with this condition, has confirmed that the noise is not detrimental to the performance, reliability or durability of the engine.
