Why does my car stall after I fill up with gas?

Why does my car stall after I fill up with gas?

Evaporative Control System Problems occur when your fuel tank is overfilled and/or gas flows into the EVAP line. A defective refuel and/or fuel cutoff valve prevents fuel from flowing and the refuel valve triggers the gas pump to stop, causing the car to stall.

What makes a car stall when the gas tank is half full?

The car stalls out when the fuel tank becomes half empty and yes, gets worse as more fuel is consumed. Slowing down doesn’t seem to cause a problem but coming to a hard stoop at the bottom of a hill will make it stall after braking.

What causes an engine to stall while driving?

If the engine stalls while idling or driving, the engine may be running out of fuel. This could be from not receiving enough fuel pressure to keep it running. The most likely cause of this kind of stalling would be, a fuel pump that is not spinning fast enough; or is intermittently cutting out.

What happens if you fill the fuel tank all the way?

The charcoal canister can become saturated if the fuel tank is “topped off” repeatedly. If either of these units fail, it would cause the concern that you describe. Armed with this knowledge, I would recommend having a certified mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, perform a fuel system and emissions system inspection.

Why does my Chevy Equinox stall at idle?

The first is that by limiting the amount of torque when you push the gas pedal for a second or two, the engineers at GM were able to increase engine life by reducing the stress on it during takeoff. The second is improved fuel economy. When the throttle position sensor fails, it defaults to idle speed.

Why does my car stall when I come to a stop?

When gas tank gauge is half full and I come to a hard stop and sometimes when moving, my car stalls, acts as though it was out of gas. I had a fuel tank sending unit replaced and it still does it.

How can I tell if my diesel tractor is stalling?

The hoses on your tractor are vital for the transferring of fuel from the fuel tank to the engine. To check these hoses, remove the fuel lines from the tractor engine, and hold them up to the light. You should be able to see any large obstructions. The line between the tank and the fuel filter. The line between the fuel filter to the injector pump.

How long does it take for a car engine to die after filling up?

For the last 6 months, after filling the gas tank, within 2-3 minutes my engine will die (while driving). After re-starting it will run fine until the next fillup. I moved from regular gas (BP) up to 93 octane (BP) which helped for a couple fillups but now it occurs even w/ 93 octane gas. Any ideas? John. Joseph_E_Meehan July 5, 2016, 10:59pm #2
