Why do I have to crank the engine for longer than normal?
Battery is strong, but I have to crank the engine for 3-4 seconds instead of the usual 1 second to start the engine. Thought it might be fuel filter, but searched and found it’s in the tank as part of the fuel pump assembly. Recently had fuel tank seal recall done, but my issue with starting was happening before this.

Hot or cold engine, it will RANDOMLY turn over 5 to 6 times before starting; mileage 260k, over the past 2 months gas mileage has dropped from 33 MPG to 29 MPG’s. The hard to start symptoms began 2 days ago.
Why does my car take 3 tries to start?
This morning it took 3 attempts… the first time I could hear the car attempt, but the engine didn’t budge, the second time it ‘nudged’ and then the 3rd time it cranked strong and started. It is very early spring here and this morning was indeed chilly… but we just got over much colder temps that had no effect like the last 3 days.
When to run the fuel pump before cranking the engine?
Some systems will run the fuel pump for a short period when the drivers door is opened or when the key is turned to the ignition stop before being turned to crank. If this isn’t happening for some reason, you may be having to wait until the fuel pump provides enough pressure at the fuel rail to start the vehicle. My vote is for the injectors.

How many times does a Ford 7.3 start?
My 99.5 250 hp 7.3 has just started doing the long crank issue. Truck has always started on the second to third time the engine turns over. Now its 8 or 10 times before it starts. I went to the store and it started fine, went to leave store, and it was 8-10 times and has been that way for a week now.
How many tries does it take to start a car?
Then one day it took about 12 tries, and started fluctuating between 3 and 12 tries for a long time. But, one time during that time period, it took me 50+ tries, then went back to 3-12 for a long time. As of today, 4 out of the last 5 times I started my car, it took well over 20 tries, if not 50.
