Why are the relays on my air conditioner stuck?

Why are the relays on my air conditioner stuck?

Stuck Relay – Relays in your air conditioner unit help open and close electrical circuits to turn components, like a fan, on and off. Over time, relays can fail or stick together from electrical currents, causing a circuit to stay closed and constantly supply power.

Why does my air conditioner keep running when the fan is turned off?

A damaged thermostat may also be the issue. If you notice your air conditioning and the blower fan all of a sudden start running, then the problem is more than likely the thermostat. This is fairly inexpensive to fix and installing a new one isn’t that difficult either. A short circuit or a damaged relay will definitely cause you to have problems.

When does the air circulation fan shut off?

From the beginning, the outside unit (compressor) would shutdown after about 45 minutes of running, but the air circulation fan would continue to run. We have the original thermostat also which blinks a code and according to the manuals we got withthe system, there must be either a timer or temperature shutoff on the compressor to protect it.

Why is my fan not communicating with my thermostat?

Over time, relay switches can become stuck or damaged, preventing the thermostat from communicating with the fan. Essentially, this means that the fan isn’t receiving the commands you’re relaying to the thermostat.

Why is my AC fan not turning off?

The most common reason that your Air Conditioner fan won’t turn off is because a stuck relay keeping the circuit closed. If it’s not the relay, your thermostat likely has a shorted cable or needs to be replaced.

Why does my air conditioner keep running when the thermostat is off?

Usually when the relay switch is broken, the fan will continue to run by itself. This happens because there’s no communication between the thermostat and the blower fan. Now, if it’s a short circuit, both the ‘ on ’ and ‘ off ’ commands you enter typically won’t get sent to the blower fan. As a result, the blower fan will continue to run.

What happens when your AC Fan is running 24 / 7?

Better dehumidification. When your fan is on “AUTO,” moisture is able to drip from the cold cooling coils and drain outside. When the fan is running 24/7, that moisture doesn’t have a chance to drip outside. Instead, it blows back into your house, and, as a result, your AC then has to work ever harder to suck that extra moisture out of the air.
