Why are my headlights quitting on my 1998 Chevy Silverado?

My headlights totally quit on my 1998 Chevy Silverado K1500. I tried pushing the emergency break up and down to try to make the switch kick in but nothing happened. I have the running lights just no high/low been when you turn the headlight switch on.

They do not turn off until the battery dies! I tried messing with the switch, and when the headlights turn on, it won’t even let you turn the lights off with the switch, after about 3 minutes it will let you turn them off. But after you go back inside for a few, they turn right back on.

Why are my low beam headlights blowing out?
