Where does the hammer come from on a well pump?

PVC from the wall 50′ to the pressure tank with a check valve at the tank. The pipe is 1″ from the well to the tank. The hammer happens when the pump shuts off and the sound is coming from where the pipe enters the house. There is about a 50′ pipe run from where the pipe enters the house to the tank.

How to prevent water hammer from damaging pumps?

2 Reduce the pumping velocity. This can be done using a larger pipe diameter or lower flowrate. 3 Make the pipe stronger. This can be expensive but might be a solution if the pipe specification is only slightly exceeded. 4 Slow down valves, or use ones with better discharge characteristics in the pipe system.

Do you need electricity to run a water hammer pump?

A water hammer pump does not need electricity nor fuel, however it can continuously pump water in a rural environment, and is virtually a carefree device. The principle of operation is very simple, and it can be put together with minimum skills and some pieces of piping.

Can a submersed pump make a single hit Noise?

It is a submersed pump the noise is heard at the wall where the line enters the house. The noise is a single hit and no pipes are moving. I never thought to check the tank to see if it was water logged. The Home owner said it has been on going for a few months now and has always been a single hit.

What should I do if my well pump is not working?

Do an electrical test on the pump to make sure the pump is working properly. If the tank was water logged the pump would turn on and off while water is being used. (Machine gun sound) Check air in the pressure tank and make sure it is correct. Click to expand…
