What trucks come with solid front axles?

Even though we are now down to just three new vehicle models available with a solid front axle in the U.S.—Jeep Wrangler, Ford Super Duty, and Ram heavy-duty trucks (four if you count the über-expensive Mercedes G-class)—we’re still huge proponents of the driven beam axle construction for off-road use.

Does the 2021 F250 have a solid front axle?

The F-250 Super Duty pickup is a no-nonsense heavy-duty machine that rides on a solid front axle that we can’t yet see. The Tremor’s unique shock absorbers mount directly to its front axle housing (green) via this welded-on bracket.

F250’s have had a solid axle since 1999. The F250 for 1997 to 2000 or 2001 came in a light duty version with an IFS front axle (those trucks look like the 97 F150). I could be wrong as to when Ford went back to a solid axle on th F350. Since 2000 the F350 and F250 are esentially the same truck.

What kind of suspension does a Ford Super Duty have?

For the first-generation Super Duty range, Ford used several different suspension configurations, depending on the model of truck. All pickup models have heavy-duty 3″ wide leaf springs and staggered shock absorbers. A standard stabilizer bar is included on dual rear-wheel models and an option on single rear-wheel versions.

When did the new Ford Super Duty come out?

The second-generation Super Duty was to debut for model year 2007, but quality issues pushed it back to the 2008 model year. It features an all-new 6.4 L, 390.5 cu in Power Stroke Diesel V8 with piezo fuel injectors and sequential turbos to replace the problematic 6.0 L Power Stroke single-turbo Diesel V8.
