Jack up one of the front corners just high enough to get one tire off the ground about an inch or so. Then take a crow bar or longer bar, put it under the tire and try lifting the tire up and down to see if you can see or hear any free play or slop. Repeat same for other front corner. Never know, maybe you might find something.

The only way to find out is to make an appointment, bring it in for service and have the issue diagnosed. You need to have an ASE qualified tech Inspect your vehicle on a lift.

Why does my control arm make a creaking noise?

Sounds to me like control arm bushings, as others have said. Could possibly be an issue with the struts or coil springs themselves (my struts and coils started squishing and creaking pretty bad when they were on their way out, but I let them go waaaay too long ), but creaking/rubbing/squishing sounds are generally bushings.
