What temp should a Duramax run?

What temp should a Duramax run?

If you own a 2001-2004 LB7: Duramax your normal operating temperatures will run around 160-180 degrees. These transmissions will warm up when towing or driving in the summer months. 200-225 is very common when the ambient air temp is 80-100 degrees and your transmission is under an increased load.

What should the operating temp be on a Duramax?

On all of my other vehicles (mostly GM), operating temp is 210, however I cant get the Duramax above 170 (according to the gauge it is 180). I took the reading via my OBDII reader, it is 170-172F.

Are there any problems with the Duramax water pump?

This seems to be inherent of the factory water pump design. Overheating issues with the Duramax diesel seems to be a hit-or-miss problem; some owners experience it, while others never will. Regardless, it’s more common with the Duramax than other engines.

What causes a Duramax to overheat in the summer?

Overheating typically occurs while towing in the Summer months, and is most prevalent in 2005 or earlier models (2006+ models received a larger radiator and fan). Overheating often occurs as a result of a fan clutch failure, preventing the engine fan from providing supplemental airflow as necessary to keep the engine from overheating.

How long does it take for a Chevy Duramax to warm up?

Mine now takes about 5 miles at highway speeds to come up to full temp. It still won’t warm up a whole lot just idling, but it is much better with the new thermostats and will now put out heat. I got my thermostats at the local parts store in a kit that had both thermostats and the rubber gaskets. Merchant also has them.

How can I change the engine temp on a 2007 Chevy Duramax?

The 2007 and up newer body style can be adjusted by turning the gauge pointer back while the truck is OFF.

What should the engine temp be in a 2004.5 LLY?

Just got a 2004.5 LLY and have a question on the normal running temperature. Seems to be the average temperature is the half way mark between 210 and the far left mark. If I go up a large hill the engine will get up to 210 and stay there for a little while after leveling off the hill before settling back down to that middle notch.
