What should the charging voltage be on a Silverado?

What should the charging voltage be on a Silverado?

When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.

What’s the battery voltage on a 2014 siliverado?

2014 siliverado battery voltage drops to 12.7 volts. Has anyone experienced battery voltage drop on a 2014 Silverado. Brought truck back to dealer with intermittent problem with voltage drop on 2014 Silverado after 2500 miles. At battery , I found voltage was 12.7 volts. dealer said they found a loose ground. after two weeks same symptom.

How does the battery charger indicator work on a Silverado?

The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds. The BCM and the ECM will send a serial data message to the driver information center for the BATTERY NOT CHARGING SERVICE CHARGING SYSTEM or SERVICE BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM message to be displayed. It is commanded ON when a charging system DTC is a current DTC.

What happens to the alternator on a Silverado?

The voltage regulator integral to the generator controls the output of the generator. It is not serviceable. The voltage regulator controls the amount of current provided to the rotor. If the generator has field control circuit failure, the generator defaults to an output voltage of 13.8 V. The body control module (BCM) is a GMLAN device.

What should alternator voltage be on Silverado Sierra?

Did you check it on the battery terminals or the alternator terminals? 13.8 and 13.9 are normal. 14.0 -14.8 is normal. Crank the truck make sure everything is off (ac, heater, radio) and test the alternator straight from the alternator terminals you should get in the 14 area.

Is it normal to have 15.5 volts in alternator?

Seeing 15.5-15.7 volts is normal on the new GM charging systems. May I ask, what led you to replace the alternator in the first place? I would have the charging system tested by a shop with a decent scan tool to monitor the desired voltage vs. the actual voltage.

What does an alternator do in a Chevy Silverado?

The alternator’s job in your Silverado is to provide electricity as it is running. The battery stores enough voltage to be able to start the engine without the assistance of an alternator. It is turned by a serpentine belt.

Can a 15vdc alternator overcharge a car battery?

15VDC is not unheard of, I’ve seen it with my own truck, and the previous D****. The ECM should trigger a fault code on an overcharge condition…it should be able to turn the alternator off too. Alternator Overcharging? No the battery will only loose voltage when going bad.

What should my alternator voltage be while driving?

While driving the voltage reads about 15.2 to 15.5. All my electronics and everything else is working normally. I do have subs though but usually the voltage should drop. Any suggestions?
