What kind of engine does a GM TH700 have?
What kind of engine does a GM TH700 have?
The front face TH700 is natively compatible with either the Chevrolet 90 degree “Small Block” & “Big Block” patterned engines (image, left), including the V6, V8, I6 & Iron Duke I4. Another version, the GM 60 degree pattern version, can be mated to 60 degree style engines, such as those in the 3800, 3.4, and other engine families.
Is the th-700 transmission a vacuum modulator?
The TH-700 (4L60) transmission does not use a vacuum modulator like some GM transmissions. Instead it uses a Throttle Valve (TV) linkage mechanism to control line pres- sure. It is essential that the TV cable be attached to the carburetor or throttle body and properly adjusted.
Can a Chevy TH700 be used as a transmission control?
You could either purchase a stand-alone transmission control computer (at about $975 from Chevrolet dealers), install a different transmission (like the non-electric TH700 from earlier Chevrolets), or purchase a manual valve-body that does away with all electronic intervention.
How does the clutch work on a GM TH700R4?
This function works either by the ECM or a vacuum switch. Earlier versions without ECM use a vacuum switch connected to ported vacuum. The transmission receives the signal and applies fluid pressure to the clutches in the lock-up converter. The system switches off due to a signal from the brake pedal.

How to install a TH-700R4 4L60 transmission?
Raise transmission and install crossmember as- sembly then tighten all bolts. Install three (M10 x 1.5 x 15) flexplate to converter bolts. Install the first bolt finger tight then use the starter motor to “bump” each drive lug into position. When all three bolts are installed torque them to 47Nm (35 ft.lbs.). STEP 8:(FIG.
