Why do I need a spark plug gap?
Opening up the plug gap is an attempt to use a larger resistance value to force the spark that “jumps” the gap to a higher voltage level. If your ignition system is up to it, it really shouldn’t matter what temperature your engine is, unless you’ve got really bad mixture distribution problems in your intake manifold.
How big is the spark plug gap on a Ford FE?
The motor is a 390fe .030 over 9.0:1 compression, RPM Performer heads and intake, 750 holley vac. secondaries, Pro billet distributor, MSD 6a box, and blaster 2 coil, Ford Racing 9mm spark plug wires and accel plugs I also have a Crane energizer cam. I originaly set the gap at .045 or .050 I’m just wondering if that is to big or what?
What should spark plug gap be on 1915 Ford touring black?
Gap it at .035 – .040″ and the results will impressyou, especially when cold. In a 9.0 :1 compression engine the mixture will be easy to light anyway so you will likely never have to change plugs again. 1915 Model T Ford touring Black of course!
What are the symptoms of a narrow spark plug?
The symptoms of narrow gap include a noticeable (continuous) cylinder miss, hard starting if all the plugs have narrow gaps, rough idle and engine hesitation. A spark plug that does not fire, resulting from a narrow gap, will appear black or wet when inspected. The black or wet appearance indicates unburned fuel.
