What is the EVO component of power steering?
What is the EVO component of power steering?
E.V.O. stands for Electronically Variable Orifice. This component is controlled by an electronic control module that reduces fluid pressure from the power steering pump to the steering gear at highway speeds. Improved high speed handling and road feel is the result.
Is there a GM EVO steering bypass kit?
If you’re sick of the EVO woes and want to eliminate it for good (without the trouble of tearing into your existing pump or swapping hoses), GM now sells a kit to do just that. What kind of pump does an Evo bypass use?
I just did an EVO bypass on my 1998 this past weekend. I kept the stock 1998 pump. I used the 26009894 fitting for the PS pump in place of the old EVO solonoid and a Gates 353950 PS pressure line. Both parts are stock 1996 parts.
Can you replace the solenoid on an Evo pump?
I found out on another forum that GM #19168825 is a kit made to replace the EVO solenoid on the pump with a fixed-orifice fitting similar to the old pumps.
When did the GM EVO steering sensor come in?
I was looking into the twitchy EVO steering setup on my mom’s 99 Tahoe again the other day. I put in the first replacement wheel position sensor a few years back (circa 2007), which was a genuine GM part from the dealer.
Can a bypass pump be replaced in an EVO steering system?
The EVO actuator (bypass pipe) replacement pumps have a direct con-. nection to the power steering pressure hose. The pumps with bypass pipes installed fit the same as the OE unit and. function as a standard steering system would.
How are Evo pumps integrated into the aftermarket?
has been integrated into the aftermarket. The EVO actuator (bypass pipe) replacement pumps have a direct con nection to the power steering pressure hose. The pumps with bypass pipes installed fit the same as the OE unit and function as a standard steering system would.
How does GM remove EVO from steering system?
Due to inconsistent steering feel, GM introduced a kit (19168825) to remove the EVO component from the system. The kit has an adapter and union that allows the existing high pressure hose to be connected to the back of the pump after the EVO unit was removed.
What do you need to replace an Evo solenoid?
The concept GM used for replacing the EVO solenoid has been integrated into the aftermarket. The EVO actuator (bypass pipe) replacement pumps have a direct con nection to the power steering pressure hose.
