Because a diesel engine uses the heat of compression to ignite its fuel, no aid to begin the combustion process is needed (i.e. spark plugs, such as in a gasoline engine).

Are there any problems with the Ford Courier?

Big end bearing, Heads, diffs and gearboxes are the problems with these apparently but ive had no troubles as i change the oils and look after mine and they towed and worked like champions, very easy to work on to in my opinion as you don’t need to be a computer programmer. Can a compression test be done on a no start diesel?

Proper compression is also a much needed part of the “no start” problem analysis. There is a time and a place for a mechanical compression test, but that test is way down at the bottom of my diagnostic test list. On the late model diesel engine, accessing a point to get the compression can be a time consuming task and there are easier ways.

What to do if your diesel truck won’t start?

Disconnect the negative (black) terminal on both batteries (otherwise you can’t test them individually). Test the voltage on each with your multimeter set to DC volts. Each battery should read over 12 volts. If one reads low, replace it. If both check out, one or both may still be bad and not able to deliver the proper power under a load.

Problems started at 150K. Clutch, turbo seals, cracked head, diff whine, gearbox overhaul. Engine was the best part of it very smooth and quiet but revved 3300RPM At 100KM/H. Oh and there are two fan belts together at the front they fell off every six months. Lots of turbo lag too absolutely nothing under 2000RPM. netg33k writes…
