What happens when you turn off the choke on an engine?

What happens when you turn off the choke on an engine?

The choke increases the amount of fuel in the mixture, creating a richer mixture. This allows the engine to function at its best until it has warmed up enough to run on its normal operating fuel mixture. At that point the choke is turned off and the engine runs with a leaner fuel/air mixture.

Why does my scooter stall out when idling?

And the obvious question, is your scooter stalling out when idling? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, they are all symptoms of your engine valves being too tight. Engine valves tighten over time after extensive use.

Why does my motor scooter not start up?

When you start up your scooter the choke or auto choke opens up in order to allow air into the ignition system, over time dirt can enter through this process especially when your model has an old or faulty air filter. Unfortunately, this is a trickier issue to fix as it involves accessing and taking apart your carburetor.

Why is the intake hose on my scooter not working?

Rubber Intake hose (boot) – the first place to check! On many scooters this hose or ‘boot’ deteriorates over time due to heat exposure. A faulty rubber intake hose is one of the most common cause of intake issues on scooters. If this hose seems fine, investigate further into your intake system to uncover any leaks.

What causes engine to stall with choke fully off?

Screw it out, the slide closes and allows less air AND fuel to get sucked into the engine which will make the rpms go down. this has nothing to do with the choke. My bike was doing the same thing, and I rode it that way for about 4 months. Then it sat for a while, and the fuel went bad.

How can I tell if my engine is running with the choke on?

if the engine runs and stays running (with the choke 1/2 on or whatever) it’s obviously getting enough gas to keep the float bowl full. You can test for flow by removing the fuel line from the carb and opening the fuel shut off valve. Let the gas run through the filter and watch how much goes in and comes out.

Can a car run with the choke fully off?

Yes the engine is supposed to run with the choke fully off (or open). If you have an n.t. carb, the choke will be a simple, old style plate that opens and closes at the inlet of the carb.

Why does my car stall in the Cold?

Engine stalling is more likely to occur during cold weather or when starting a cold engine. So, this kind of engine stalling problem often means the engine is not getting enough fuel and/or too much air. A cold engine needs a fairly rich fuel mixture to start, and to idle smoothly while it warms up.

Why does my engine only run with choke on or pressing primer?

Inspect the carburetor mounting for loose hardware. Inspect the carburetor mounting gasket seal for tears or improper fit. Service these areas as necessary. 2) Fuel system contaminationhas resulted in the air and fuel mixture jets inside of the carburetor to become clogged.

What to do if your lawn mower only runs with the choke on?

How does a choke plate work on a carburetor?

When closed, the choke plate restricts most of the incoming air from entering the carburetor’s venturi. This creates additional low pressure in the venturi and also forces air to be drawn through a port on the front of the carburetor body. This port leads to the air space at the top of the bowl.

The choke increases the amount of fuel in the mixture, creating a richer mixture. This allows the engine to function at its best until it has warmed up enough to run on its normal operating fuel mixture. At that point the choke is turned off and the engine runs with a leaner fuel/air mixture.

When is the choke closed on a Mustang?

[This message has been edited by mustangboy (edited 09-08-2005).] Thanks for the reply. The problem is not there when the engine is cold and the choke closed.

Why does the choke plate not work properly?

The choke plate is working properly wide open after the engine is warmed up and it does feel like fuel starvation that all of a sudden kicks in after the car is moving. Press the pedal from a stop it kinda bogs then off it goes.

Why does my pony engine hesitate when the choke is opened?

The problem is not there when the engine is cold and the choke closed. The hesitation occurs after the choke is opened an engine hot. The fuel line is far enough away so I dont think it is a vapor lock. A friend told me it could possible be a squiter problem but John at Pony Carburetors said he didn’t think so.
