What does the pink wire on a fuel gauge mean?
The last wire that runs to the gauge is the sending wire that originates from the fuel sender. This wire is normally (or should be) pink in most vessels. This informs the gauge of the position of the fuel sender. The only missing component left on these gauges is usually the light.
Why are the gauges not working on my Western Star?
It sounds like the gauge cluster is not receiving the information from the engine ! The data link must be open somewhere from cluster to firewall connections. Have you tried reseating the firewall connectors? Hi, I’m Gina a moderator for this topic. It seems the Expert has left this conversation.
What does the arrow next to the fuel gauge mean?
The sender measures the level of fuel in the tank while the fuel gauge displays that level for the driver. What does the arrow next to the fuel gauge mean? The little arrow next to your fuel gauge actually points to your gas tank.
What should I do if my fuel gauge is not working?
This way, whenever you turn the key ON, the gauge receives power and turns on the fuel gauge system. These are usually a yellow or purple wire (depending on what brand engine you have on your boat). Make sure that wire has battery voltage on it going to the gauge. If there is an issue with the power going to the gauge.

What do you need to know about fuel gauges?
In an old-school classic with analog gauges, you’ll need to know how the gauge works, as manufacturers used different electrical conductance to operate the gauge. For example, a Ford fuel sending unit has almost zero resistance on a full tank, while a GM sending unit of the same year has maximum resistance on a full tank.
Why are the gauges on my Western Star not working?
(Gauges worked fine untill we sent the truck to get painted, only thing we know is they unhooked the batteries, pulled the doors off and pulled off the hood. they climbed around the engine bay to paint the top of the cab but all connections look to be good. Gauges haven’t worked since truck left the paint shop)
Why does my Fuel Gauge stick on empty?
The only missing component left on these gauges is usually the light. The light just uses jumper wires coming from the power wire to the light wire. Then, a jumper that runs from the ground to the light. If the gauge isn’t getting power, it will stick on empty. And if the gauge shorts out, it will stick on full!
