What does an axle oil slinger do?

On the oil slinger-some axles use these, some don’t. Essentially it’s a metal ring that looks almost like a huge flat washer which is dished in the center to fit over the pinion and recess under the bearing. It does just what it’s name implies-dips in the oil and “slings” it up to help lubricate the pinion bearing.

What is a differential oil slinger?

The Pinion oil slinger is a metal oil slinger that fits between the pinion seal and the outer pinion bearing, preventing leaks by keeping gear oil from flooding the seal. We also carry the inner pinion oil slinger and the inner shaft oil slinger, also made by Crown Automotive.

Are oil slingers necessary?

Actually the function of the slinger is to BOTH keep excessive oil away from the front seal (it was a method of minimizing warranty issues–oil leaks) AND to sling the excess oil onto the chain where it certainly would do no harm, but most likely not necessary.

What is an axle shaft slinger?

Moderator. If the slingers are located near where a shaft exits the housing, they throw the oil away from the seal area to make the seal’s job of keeping the oil in the axle easier. That’s a generic definition of what a oil slinger is when it’s located in that position.

How does an oil slinger ring work?

An oil sump is underneath this shaft and the ring is large enough to dip into the oil. As the shaft rotates, the ring is carried round with it. The rotating ring in turn picks up some oil and deposits it onto the shaft, from where it flows sideways and lubricates the bearings.

Are slings better than bows?

The bow is generally more accurate, although a skilled slinger can have the accuracy of an archer. The sling has a longer range (generally) and more force per projectile. Both weapons cause terrific wounds, although the sling doesn’t rely as much on accuracy to achieve a mortal or at least incapacitating wound.
