What do you need to know about a 42RLE transmission?
What do you need to know about a 42RLE transmission?
DESCRIPTION The 42RLE (Fig. 1) is a four-speed transmission that is a conventional hydraulic/mechanical assembly controlled with adaptive electronic controls and mon- itors. The hydraulic system of the transmission con- sists of the transmission fluid, fluid passages, hydraulic valves, and various line pressure control components.

When does the transmission slip in a Dodge Magnum?
After initial start and for about 5 minutes afterwards the transmission is slipping in any gear from 1 to 3. Most noticeable when in 3 gear and accelerating lightly. You will notice the RPMs are gradually going up, but the speed is not going up but tends to go down.
What happens when you shift from 3rd to 4th in Dodge Magnum?
Things did get worse, from the shifting to a grinding noise. Between 35-40 mph, when the car shifts from 3rd to 4th, the rpm go way down (3000k to 1500K — as you would expect), but then I would get a nasty grinding noise/vibration.
Do you need transmission fluid in a 42RLE transmission?
The transmissions are known to have some quirky problems now and then, and given how much they rely on electronics, that’s not surprising. One important thing is that you must use the correct transmission fluid in a 42RLE transmission.
What should I know about my Jeep 42RLE transmission?
Using the wrong fluid can damage the transmission and shorten it’s life. Other common parts for the Jeep 42RLE automatic transmission are: The 42RLE is common, so if you have one, get to know it. We’re happy to help you maintain it with fresh parts from the Morris 4×4 Center.

Are there any transmission problems in a trasnmssion?
Every trasnmssion has its own type of problem. Also, if you were in the area of 100,000 miles on your transmission, you better hope that $1700 got you new planet kit, 2/4 hub and rev hub. And, hopefully they aren’t using “white box” parts.
What happens to the transmission after a fluid flush?
The shifting problems many experience after a fluid flush is usually a hard down shift from 3rd to 2nd gear, it sounds like a clunk while you’re decelerating, the clunk jerks the car and is quite annoying. To save money and do it yourself you can manually retrain the transmission. The next option is to take it to the dealer and pay them to do it.
What kind of transmission does a Jeep Liberty use?
The 42RLE transmission was not only used in the Jeep Liberty, it was also used in the Jeep JK Wranglers (2007 to 2013) and the TJ/TJL Wranglers (2003 to 2006). The transmissions are known to have some quirky problems now and then, and given how much they rely on electronics, that’s not surprising.

Why are there no forward gears on my 4L60E?
Long story short, old transmission is shot, new transmission that was a fresh build, will not engage any forward gears. Reverse works perfectly. I was wondering what I could look for in the valve body area that could cause this, before re pulling this transmission for a third time to look for burnt up clutches inside.
How does reverse gear work in an automatic transmission?
Now when the sun or shell is “driven”, the other member will spin in reverse. , While my degree wasn’t mechanical engineering, my mind is. Reverse gear in an automatic transmission works just like it does in a manual transmission. You physically have to select “R” or reverse while at a stop to do so.
