What causes the p0017 code on the ECM?
What causes the p0017 code on the ECM?
Technicians will use an oscilloscope to examine the crank and cam sensor pattern the ECM/PCM is reading while the engine is running. A damaged timing chain or belt can trigger code P0017. What are the Possible Causes of the P0017 Code?
What causes a crankshaft to be in p0017 position?
To sum things up, the common causes for code P0017 are as follows: 1 A faulty cam or crank sensor 2 The cam or crank circuit is open or shorted 3 The timing belt/chain is out of time 4 The cam or crank tone ring is slipped/broken 5 A problem in the VVT system 6 The PCM is faulty
Why does my Cadillac CTS p0017 not run?
The timing chain or belt will throw cause P0017 to throw. This will happen when it has stretched or jumped a tooth or two. If it jumps more than a few teeth, the odds are that the engine itself will not run at all. If you’ve recently changed the timing chain, it may very well have not been aligned properly on install.
What does p0017 mean on a GMC Terrain?
P0017 should be considered an important trouble code to diagnose and repair. The crank and cam sensors work in tandem to produce the ideal air/fuel ratio for your engine. When this timing is off, the engine will typically not run (or barely run). Here are the major symptoms of P0017 in the Terrain:
What does the PCM code p0017 stand for?
The CKP and CMP sensors work together to keep the PCM informed about engine timing. Should the timing be off, the PCM will set a code P0017. This code stands for Crankshaft Position – Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor B). The B sensor is likely on the exhaust side.
Why does my Dodge Caliber p0017 keep coming back?
P0017 keeps coming back and it won’t rev past 4k I did. I replaced all the cam phasers, timing chain, and oil pump chain. The timing chain was super loose which caused it to jump teeth and threw off the timing. The phasers were also pretty worn out too which didn’t help.
What does the p0017 code on OBD-II mean?
If they are not in sync, your engine could malfunction and may trigger the P0017 code on an OBD-II scan tool. Code P0017 means that your car’s powertrain control module detects a misalignment between the crankshaft and camshaft positions.
