What causes the gauges in your car to stop working?
Once one of the gauges in your car stops working, there can be one of two reasons for this. It could be either a bad sensor or a problem with the gauge itself. But it could also happen that all the gauges stop functioning at the same. This could be caused by defective instrument clusters or a blown fuse.
What does it mean when your dash gauges stop working?
After a short period they jump back up or if I stop, shut it down and restart it all is fine, for a while. I also hear what sounds like a pressure relief valve releasing, and when the gauges are down and I am coming to a stop, it sounds like the tranny is grinding. I can drive it as long as i dont accelerate and go 65 but when i come to hill or give it a bit of throttle it shuts down fuel pressure gauge shows 60 lbs at 40 mph low rpms but if i give it gas any at all it drops to 5 lbs & engine wont respond till i let off the pedal also it starts stumbling trying to stall !

(Gauges worked fine untill we sent the truck to get painted, only thing we know is they unhooked the batteries, pulled the doors off and pulled off the hood. they climbed around the engine bay to paint the top of the cab but all connections look to be good. Gauges haven’t worked since truck left the paint shop)
Why does my GM Truck shut down while driving?
At a dead stop. It would crank over, but not start. Ran the battery dead trying to crank it. My dad came to help, charged the battery, and it started right up. It sounds wierd but this is what its doing.

In one of the youtube videos I watched, the guy mentioned that there are also three small surface mount resistors that control power to the entire cluster, and his were causing the entire gauge cluster to go dead. He reflowed them and corrected the issue. I had a issue pretty similar to this as well.

What causes a truck to shut off while driving?
For the fuel pump it can cause all sort of problems. One thing about them is they are designed to keep a certain amount of pressure in the line. If the pressure drops a couple psi from what the vehicle needs there is a switch on the fuel rail (on injected trucks anyways) that will shut off the engine.
